Car rental terms and conditions | Travis Rent a Car

Car rental is based on a contract signed between the user (lessee) and the supplier, Travis Rent a Car - SC NORD TOUR SRL (lessor). We recommend carefully reading of all contractual clauses. The user (lessee) is obliged to fulfill all the conditions written in the contract. The supplier (lessor) reserves the right not to accept the rental if it considers it necessary, without the obligation to provide any explanations.

 

What documents are required to rent a car in Romania?

To rent a car in Romania, you need the following documents:

  • A valid driver`s license, issued at least 1 year previously and appropriate for the vehicle`s category.

  • An identity card (preferably with a permanent address in Romania).
    All documents must be presented in their original form when collecting the car.

 

From what age can I rent a car in Romania?

The minimum age to rent a car in Romania is 21. At the time of rental, the driver must present a valid driver`s license issued at least 1 year previously and an identity card.

 

Can I rent a car if I am under 21?

Yes, under certain conditions. Persons between 19 and 21 can rent a car if:

  • They have held a driver`s license for at least 1 year;

  • They pay a young driver surcharge;

  • They select a model from the vehicle classes available for this option;

  • They confirm and pay in full for their booking at least 3 days in advance.

If the required documents are unavailable in time, the booking may be canceled free of charge.

  

What is included in the rental price?

The rental price is expressed in EUR/day and includes:

  • Use of the vehicle;

  • Maintenance and service checks;

  • BASIC Cover;

  • VAT.

Fuel is not included in the price. Special rates for long-term rental or for rentals outside Romania may be available upon request.

 

What types of offers are available when renting a car?

The online booking system displays 3 SMART offers:

  • BUDGET

  • STANDARD

  • PLUS

Each has different rates and benefits, depending on the services included, the conditions of payment, and the cancellation policy.


What is a deposit (franchise), and how does it work in car rental?

In addition to the rental price, the User must pay a deposit (franchise) of 100-2000 EUR, which will be fully refunded upon return of the car in good condition.
If the car is damaged or stolen by the User`s fault or by an unknown person, the deposit will be kept to cover the damage.


Can I reduce the deposit when renting a car?

Yes. The deposit amount and the User’s liability can be reduced by paying an additional fee for:

  • EXTRA Cover

  • SUPER Cover

  • FULL Cover

These options can be selected up until the moment of rental.


What happens if the rental car breaks down or is damaged?

Suppose the rental car breaks down and the problem cannot be resolved immediately. In that case, the Provider will replace it within 24 hours, subject to availability and location, provided the damage is not the User’s fault.
If the damage is due to the User`s actions, the following applies:

  • A new deposit must be made;

  • Or a new damage waiver fee must be paid in order to receive another car.

If the Provider cannot replace the car, the User will be refunded for the period the vehicle was unavailable, proportional to its rental price.


How is the rental payable?

The rental is payable in advance, in EUR or LEI, by:

  • Cash;

  • Bank transfer;

  • Credit card (VISA, Mastercard).

The payment can be made at the agency or online.


How can I make a booking for a car?

A car booking can be made online by following the steps on the website. The booking confirmation may be instant (if the vehicle is available) or, for some models, upon manual processing by an agent, typically within 3 hours.


What does booking confirmation mean, and what does it guarantee?

Booking confirmation guarantees the availability of the vehicle for the period you have chosen. The Provider will endeavor to provide the reserved and confirmed model — however, for objective reasons (such as technical issues), it reserves the right to replace it with another vehicle of at least the same class and features.


How and when is booking guaranteed?

Once the booking is confirmed, a deposit of at least 50 or 100 EUR (depending on the total rental) must be made within 24–72 hours. Otherwise, the booking may be canceled.


What are the conditions of payment and cancellation of the booking?

When collecting the car, the Renter must pay the difference up to the total rental amount. If the deposit is not made, we reserve the right to cancel the booking.
The conditions for cancellation depend on each Provider`s policy and service package. We recommend reading cancellation conditions carefully before booking.


What is the minimum rental period for a car?

The minimum rental period is 24 hours. Rental may be extended, subject to vehicle availability and the Provider’s approval, and upon payment of additional rental and/or fees.


How are the delivery and return of the rental car made?

The rental car is delivered and returned with a full and clean tank of fuel.
If the car is returned with less fuel, a fee of 2 EUR + VAT/liter will apply, plus a service fee of 20 EUR.
If there is no availability or Provider in a particular location, delivery from another city may be arranged, subject to delivery charges.
Vehicle delivery and/or return outside the Provider`s business hours incur a fee, in conformity with the online pricing.


Is an additional driver allowed?

Yes, you can add one or more additional drivers, for a fee.
Each additional driver must meet the same conditions as the main driver.
A maximum of 3 additional drivers can be added, subject to an additional fee for each.

In case of car damage or theft, 100% of your deposit will be charged.

In case of car damage (except wheel rims/cover, tires* and car windscreen) or theft, the whole of your deposit will be charged.

*In case of a flat tire, the cost of vulcanization services will be reimbursed up to a limit of 25 EUR/event, based on supporting documents.

In case of car damage (except inside of the car) or theft, the whole of your deposit will be refunded.

In case of damage caused to the interior of the car (dashboard, upholstery, ceiling etc.), the user will pay the entire value of the repairs.

What additional services are available when renting a car?

On request and for a fee, you can add:

  • Driver

  • GPS

  • Child seat

  • Snow chains

  • Transfers

  • Local tours with a driver-guide

All these services can be selected during booking or afterwards, subject to availability.


Can I take the rental car outside Romania?

Yes, but only with the Provider’s written approval and upon paying an additional fee.
The car may be driven only within Romania, except when a written authorization is issued to take it outside the country. An additional fee applies, as listed under “Additional Services.”

International rental is available only for certain models and classes of vehicles. The booking must be confirmed and fully prepaid at least 3 days in advance to allow documents to be prepared. If documents are unavailable in time, the booking may be canceled without penalty.
For safety, the vehicle may be GPS-tracked.


Who is liable for fines, taxes, or damage?

All fines, road taxes, parking, or cleaning charges are the User’s responsibility.
If vehicle documents are lost, a fee of 100 EUR applies. Loss of keys incurs a fee of 200-1000 EUR, depending on the model.
Damage to wheels or seats will be charged according to the rental agreement.
Smoking in the vehicle is prohibited; if traces of smoking are found, a 100 EUR cleaning fee applies.
